I first heard about Open Hands Overflowing Hearts (OHOH) thanks to my Princess friends. OHOH was founded by Princess Kayla Perry who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma back in 2012. It was obvious that funding for pediatric cancer research was very scarce so Kayla’s passion was to change that. You must read her story! She is a remarkable young woman inspiring others as she walks through her personal journey.
Over the Princess Half Marathon weekend, I was able to see for myself that there is POWER in numbers. Leading up to Princess weekend, the Main Street Memories Princesses raised $20,000 to help fund childhood cancer research. That’s a big deal! I knew it was time for me to join them.
The 2nd Annual OHOH 10K, 5K, & 1 Mile Fun Run will take place on March 26, 2016 in Helena, Ala. If you can’t make it, you can run or walk virtually or participate in the sleep in! Whatever you decide, you will be spreading awareness and helping to raise money for pediatric cancer research. This will be an amazing day to honor sweet Kayla, Joey Colt, and all of the other sweet children who are battling cancer or who have transitioned to heaven. This event is for all runners and walkers. I hope to see you there! Please share this event with everyone you know.
This past Saturday I traveled to Meridian, MS to conquer 26.2 miles in the Magnolia Marathon. Once again, I did something that I thought was impossible. This marathon was life changing in so many ways. Every challenge that I face reveals something new. I witnessed a journey of triumph, strength, and perseverance. It was also […]

Birmingham’s Premier Marathon Weekend Event (and one of my favorite weekends out of the year) includes: a Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay, 5K, and Kids Marathon. The Mercedes Half marked a pivotal point on my running journey. Mercedes was my first half marathon and […]
This is part 1 of my 40th MCM race recap. I needed to share this special part of the journey first before I shared the rest. I always share about my upcoming races, but I was really nervous about sharing my journey to the 2015 Marine Corps Marathon. If you follow me on Instagram you […]
Run the Bluegrass was truly an EXPERIENCE! It was held March 28, 2015 in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky. My HB signed us both up for this race–more so of a surprise to me. I’ll admit…I smiled when I received the confirmation in my inbox. The HB is a “Bling Chaser” (i.e., he runs for the shine, […]
Training for the Marine Corps Marathon kicked off this past Monday! Woo-hoo! Nervous and excited much, Artney? Why yes, I am! I will be Running with the Marines in less than 125 days! Cue “Eye of the Tiger”! I have also been working on Shredding weight over the past month and I will continue to […]
I will be running with Team Fisher House in the 40th Marine Corps Marathon in October! When I heard about TFH and their support towards helping military families, I wanted in. When I received a personal phone call from one of the founders, who is also a military spouse/runner, welcoming me to the team I […]
